Lesson: Tumor Treatment Volumes
Below are the definitions of the Volumes per the ICRU 50 & 62.
OAR, PRV
OAR (Organ at Risk) – “[OARs] are normal tissues whose radiation sensitivity may significantly influence treatment planning and/or prescribed dose.” Examples of OARs for radiotherapy of an oral cavity tumor can include the spinal cord, brainstem, and parotid glands.
PRV (Planning Risk Volume) – the OAR plus a margin, to compensate for movement and/or set-up errors of the OAR.
