Lesson: Tumor Treatment Volumes

Below are the definitions of the Volumes per the ICRU 50 & 62.

Volumes

Note that the GTV, CTV, and PTV are target volumes based on directives from the radiation oncologist. On the other hand, the TV and IrV are artifacts of the treatment planning process, that is, areas that are irradiated based on the beams and angles that the medical dosimetrist chooses in order to fulfill the physician’s prescription.
